Shillong, Jun 4: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today told the leaders of various Christian churches  to meet him in Delhi to discuss on their concerns regarding the proposed amendment to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

A delegation of the North East India Christian Council (NEICC) met Shah in Shillong today and expressed their concerns over the amendent bill. They also urged him to consider their concerns.

After listening to their views, Shah asked the NEICC to prepare a detailed memorandum clause-wise and to meet him in Delhi as early as possible to discuss the matter.

Moreover, a delegation of Khasi Authors’ Society (KAS) led by its president Dr. D Rockyer L. Nonglait and a delegation of Achik Literature Society met the Union Home Minister to press for their demand for inclusion of Khasi and Garo in the Eighth Schedule.

Shah told the two delegation that a committee would be set up soon to look into the issue since there are over 100 similar demands for inclusion in the Eighth Schedule.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government also submitted a memorandum  to Shah.

The memorandum sought for proper mechanism to deal with illegal immigration. It also suggested implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) or Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) in the State to prevent illegal immigration.

Another demand was for inclusion of Khasi and Garo in the Eighth Schedule.

The memorandum also requested Shah to consult the State government before going ahead with the amendment to the Sixth Schedule.

It also requested for changing some of the provisions in the amendment to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act which have caused concerns to churches.
