UDP’s Emergency CEC On Friday: Will All Party MLAs Attend?

Shillong, Sep 10: The UDP has called for an emergency meeting of its central executive council meeting in Shillong tomorrow to discuss party matters and also commemorate the foundation day of the party.

Informing this today, UDP general secretary Titos Chyne said that the meeting would discuss the political situation in the party vis a vis reports that around nine party MLAs are planning to switch over to the BJP.

Stating that all party MLAs and MDCs have been invited to attend the meeting besides party leaders from all constituencies and wings, Chyne also said that he was surprised that the MLAs whose names figured among the possible defectors have not admitted or rejected the media reports about their plan to join the BJP.

However, things will be clear tomorrow whether all twelve UDP legislators attend the CEC meeting.

Murmurs of dissent were also expressed a few days ago by senior party MLA Paul Lyngdoh who openly criticised the style of functioning in the UDP and blamed the leadership for the current crisis in the party.

If the nine MLAs along with Lyngdoh choose to skip the CEC meeting tomorrow, it would be a clear sign that UDP is in serious trouble.
