Shillong, May 30: The road from Umtyngngar to Sohra will soon be converted into a double-lane road.
This was informed by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong while addressing a meeting of the NPP at Saitsohpen, Sohra yesterday.
According to Tynsong, the double laning of the Umtyngngar-Sohra road will cover a total length of 42.500 kilometres.
“Within a few weeks we will float a tender notice for this project,” he said.
Tynsong also said that the double-laning project of the Umtyngngar-Sohra road is estimated to cost over Rs 200 crore.
“This widening of the road into double lane will boost tourism in Sohra. Therefore, be ready to reap this benefit by building more homestays for tourists,” he said.
The road from Umshyrpri in Shillong to Hynñiew Mer has been converted into four lanes. Most of the project was completed except footpaths and drains.
The road from Hynñiew Mer to Umtyngngar is an intermediate road which is yet to be completed. Many commuters have complained about the slow progress of the work.
