We Are In High Level, Says Meghalaya Dy CM To Assam’s Himanta

Shillong, Jul 26: The allegations by the BJP government in Assam that Meghalaya is responsible for the flood in Guwahati has evoked a geographically logical response from Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.

Speaking to media persons in Shillong today, Tynsong reminded Sarma that floods occur primarily in low-lying areas.

“Floods never happen in the hilly areas, it happens in the low level areas,” he said.

In a wise advice to the Assam Chief Minister, Tynsong said that inadequate drainage and infrastructure in low-laying areas often contributes to waterlogging.

“When you are in lower level and if proper drainage or proper infrastructure is not designed, then naturally it (flood) happens,” Tynsong said.

He added, “This blame comes to Meghalaya time and again. It comes to us because we are in the higher level whereas they (Assam) are in the lower level.”
