Barcelona, June 13: Indian racing driver Kush Maini delivered a commanding performance on June 13, 2026, to claim victory in the FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, leading from the opening lap and finishing with a comfortable margin over his nearest rival.
Starting from the front row, the ART Grand Prix driver made a strong getaway and overtook polesitter Noel León in the early stages of the race. Once in front, Maini controlled the pace throughout, managing his tyres effectively and steadily extending his lead over the chasing pack.
The Alpine Academy driver crossed the finish line more than seven seconds ahead of the competition, securing one of the most impressive victories of the Formula 2 season.
Championship leader Gabriele Minì produced an equally impressive recovery drive, climbing from seventh on the grid to finish second. The MP Motorsport driver moved through the field with a series of decisive overtakes before securing the runner-up position after a late battle with Nikola Tsolov.
Tsolov completed the podium in third place after a strong race that saw him gain positions early on and remain in contention throughout the event.
Meanwhile, American driver Colton Herta appeared on course for a podium finish after a remarkable charge through the field. However, a late mistake on the final lap saw him run wide into the gravel, costing him valuable positions and leaving him to finish fifth.
Noel León, who started from pole position, ultimately finished fourth and strengthened his position in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
The victory marks a significant achievement for Maini, further enhancing his reputation as one of India’s brightest motorsport talents and boosting his prospects within the highly competitive Formula 2 championship.
With momentum firmly on his side, Maini will now look to carry his strong form into the remainder of the season as he continues his pursuit of further success on the international stage.
