Shillong Traffic Police issued warning on vehicles modification

Shillong, May 07: The Shillong Traffic Police has issued a strict warning against the use of modified exhaust pipes and pressure horns, stating that such illegal vehicle modifications are a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

According to the traffic police, excessively loud exhaust systems and pressure horns contribute to noise pollution, public disturbance, and unsafe road conditions. Authorities said complaints regarding loud vehicles have been increasing in several parts of the city.

Vehicles found using illegal modified exhausts or pressure horns may face challans of up to ₹5,000, while the unlawful modifications can also be seized or removed by authorities.

The Shillong Traffic Police urged vehicle owners to keep their vehicles road-legal and avoid modifications that disturb the public.

“Loud exhaust, louder fine,” the police stated, adding that responsible driving and compliance with traffic laws are essential for maintaining peace and safety on the roads.
