Nongpoh, May 30: The National People’s Party (NPP) Umroi Block on Saturday welcomed Ms. Naphishisha Marwein and Vincent Nianglang, President of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Umroi Unit, who joined the NPP along with hundreds of supporters and several prominent office-bearers who resigned from the UDP to join the ruling party.
Ms. Naphishisha Marwein, who contested the 2025 MDC election from Umroi Constituency on a UDP ticket, had earlier joined the National People’s Party (NPP) on February 27, 2026, and was formally received by the party’s senior leaders. However, today, she, along with UDP Umroi President Vincent Nianglang, mobilised UDP members and supporters and formally led them into the NPP during a programme held at Dwar Ksuid in Umroi Nongrah village.

The former UDP leaders and supporters were welcomed into the NPP Umroi Block by NPP Umroi Block President Damanbait Lamare, former Umroi MLA and Chief Adviser of the NPP Umroi Block Ma Ngaitlang Dkhar, NPP Umroi Block Secretary R.R. Kharbuhkhi, NPYF Meghalaya State Unit General Secretary Pynhun Rynghang, and other party functionaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Marwein said that after the MDC election she did not remain inactive but continued serving the people and exploring ways to contribute to the development of the Umroi Constituency. She stated that, as a young woman, she remains deeply concerned about the welfare and progress of the constituency, and it was this commitment that motivated her and her supporters to join the NPP and continue serving the people of Umroi.
She further claimed that a large number of UDP office-bearers, leaders and supporters from Umroi had resigned from the party and joined the NPP on Saturday. According to her, following the mass exodus, only the Secretary remains in the UDP Umroi Unit, while most of its members and leaders have shifted allegiance to the ruling National People’s Party.
