Khliehriat, June 4: Headman of Wapungskur Village, Postling Dkhar, today informed the media that the village has received a sanction of Rs. 6.75 crore for the improvement of its 9.05-km internal road, which has remained neglected for over 23 years since its construction.
Dkhar said the Office of the Dorbar Shnong Wapungskur had submitted a memorandum to Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, in 2025 seeking support for the road’s reconstruction. Following several meetings with authorities from the district to the state level, the Deputy Chief Minister assured the Dorbar Shnong of his support in securing the project.
This year, the village received official sanction for the road improvement work. In recognition of his support, representatives of the Dorbar Shnong recently met the Deputy Chief Minister and presented him with a memento.
Expressing gratitude to the Meghalaya Government, Dkhar said good work carried out by the government should be acknowledged and supported, adding that such efforts benefit not only Wapungskur but also many other villages across the state.
Wapungskur Village comprises four localities—Tpepswer, Moopyniein, Umshongpet, and Snanlein. Dkhar.
He futher stated that while the government is often face criticism, but positive initiatives and development projects implemented for rural communities should also be appreciated.
