Shillong, June 4: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed satisfaction after Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that the Central Government would give due consideration to four important issues raised by the State Government during the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council held at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, on Thursday.
During Amit Shah’s visit to participate in the NEC plenary session, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma took the opportunity to place before him four key demands concerning the interests and welfare of the people of Meghalaya.
Apart from highlighting these important issues during the meeting, the Chief Minister also submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister outlining the demands and concerns of the State.

The issues raised by the Chief Minister included the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, amendments to the Sixth Schedule, and concerns regarding amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), which several organisations fear could adversely affect Meghalaya.
Speaking on the matter, Conrad K. Sangma said the State Government was pleased that Amit Shah had assured serious consideration of the issues raised. He particularly welcomed the Home Minister’s response regarding the FCRA, noting that Amit Shah had invited religious leaders to New Delhi to discuss the difficulties and concerns arising from the proposed amendments to the Act.
