VPP Dismisses Rumours of Ardent Contesting from Two Seats in 2028

Shillong, June 26: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has dismissed speculation that its president, Ardent M. Basaiawmoit, will contest the 2028 Assembly elections from two constituencies.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Mawlai MLA and VPP leader Brightstarwell Marbaniang described the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

“There is nothing as such. These are merely rumours being spread by our opponents,” Marbaniang said.

He clarified that the selection of party candidates for the 2028 Assembly elections would be decided solely by the party.

“I am the MLA from Mawlai, and if the party reposes its trust in me for 2028, I will contest. Ardent is the MLA from Nongkrem. If the party entrusts him again, he will contest. Otherwise, if the party does not find him suitable, even Ardent will not be contesting,” he said.

Marbaniang stressed that the VPP does not extend special treatment to any individual, including its president.

“That is the stand of the party. Whether it is me or Ardent, everyone is treated equally,” he added.
