Imagine a student preparing for an examination, a shopkeeper serving customers, or a writer trying to complete a page of work. Just as concentration begins to build, the electricity goes off again. This has become a familiar experience for many residents of the Umden-Mawlong area.
The residents of the Umden-Mawlong area have been facing a persistent challenge that deserves serious attention: frequent and unpredictable power outages.
Electricity has become an essential part of modern life. It supports education, communication, business activities, public services, and household needs. Yet many residents in our area continue to experience repeated interruptions throughout the day, often without prior notice.
From personal observation, power supply can sometimes be interrupted numerous times within a single day. There are occasions when electricity returns for only a few minutes before going off again. At other times, supply may remain available for an hour and then disappear for several hours. The unpredictability of these interruptions creates frustration and uncertainty for everyone.
The consequences extend beyond mere inconvenience. Students struggle to maintain study routines. Small businesses suffer interruptions in their operations. Online work, communication, and access to information become unreliable. Community institutions, including schools, churches, and local organizations, also face difficulties in carrying out their activities effectively.
As a writer, I have personally experienced the challenge of trying to complete a page of work only to have the electricity suddenly fail. While this may seem like a small inconvenience, repeated interruptions reduce productivity and make it difficult to plan and complete important tasks.
It is understood that power authorities may face technical challenges, maintenance requirements, weather-related difficulties, or infrastructure limitations. The purpose of raising this concern is not to assign blame, but to highlight the impact that unreliable electricity supply has on ordinary citizens.
Reliable electricity is no longer a luxury. It is an essential service that enables education, productivity, communication, and community development.
The people of Umden–Mawlong are not seeking special treatment. They are simply asking for a reliable and predictable electricity supply that allows families to study, work, conduct business, and contribute productively to society. We respectfully appeal to the concerned authorities to investigate this matter and take practical steps toward a lasting solution.
A community grows when its people are empowered to learn, work, and serve without unnecessary obstacles. It is hoped that the relevant authorities will give due consideration to this matter and work together with the community toward practical and lasting improvements.
