Shillong, Sep 29: BJP leader and South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai has slammed the Congress party in Meghalaya for making “false allegations” against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In a statement issued today, Shullai said the people of Meghalaya saw how all the three Election Commissioners acted with complete and recorded concensus on every major decision.
“I would like to ask the Congress why its only agenda is spreading falsehoods. SIR is an important step to ensure that illegal migrants don’t get to vote in our State and we are all determined to ensure its success,” Shullai said.

He also said that the statutory declaration attached to Form-6 for the SIR has been explicitly scrutinised and upheld by the Supreme Court of India. “Is the Congress and its deceitful partners questioning the highest judicial authority of the land in the name of saving democracy?” he asked.
Accusing the Congress of having a “habitual practice of attacking the Election Commission, the judiciary, and other independent institutions”, Shullai said that Congress and its allies have questioned EVMs whenever they have lost the elections.
“The Congress and its allies have been totally rejected in Meghalaya and now they are trying to hijack the people’s choice by spreading lies and creating chaos. Every word spoken by the Congress only reeks of dishonesty and attempt to destabilise society. They must understand that the people of Meghalaya will stand with facts and never with negative agenda and falsehood,” Shullai concluded.
