Shillong, Sep 30: Lawyers in Meghalaya will abstain from judicial works from October 1 onwards till the State government removes Advocate General Amit Kumar from his position.
The decision was taken at the emergency meeting of the Meghalaya High Court Bar Association and Shillong Bar Association today.
The meeting also decided that the abstention from judicial works would not apply to bail and urgent motion matters.

Meanwhile, on October 5, a rally would be held in Shillong which would be participated by lawyers from all over Meghalaya.
It may be noted that both the bar associations have petitioned Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong earlier this month seeking immediate ouster of Kumar from the post of Advocate General.
However, their plea went unheeded as the State government continued to use the service of Kumar in judicial matters in the Meghalaya High Court and lower courts.
