Shillong, June 10: Meghalaya’s rich blues heritage is set to take centre stage as some of the state’s most celebrated musicians come together for a rare and historic performance at The Bluesmen of Meghalaya – 5th Edition, scheduled for June 20 at The Evening Club, Shillong.
The event will mark only the fifth occasion in Meghalaya’s musical history that some of the state’s most iconic blues artists will perform together on a single stage, bringing together generations of musicians who have shaped and sustained the region’s blues tradition.
Headlining the concert is veteran musician Lou Majaw, widely regarded as the godfather of Indian blues rock. He will be joined by renowned guitarist and Soulmate frontman Rudy Wallang, one of the country’s most accomplished blues performers with an extensive international touring record.
Also featuring in the lineup is Starly Chullai, whose recent victory at the Mahindra Blues Festival in Mumbai has brought national recognition to Meghalaya’s contemporary blues scene. The concert will further showcase the talents of young blues musicians Gregory Ford Nongrum, Tony Balsam, Shepherd Star Najiar, and LB King, representing the next generation of artists carrying forward Shillong’s celebrated blues legacy.
Organisers describe the event as a significant cultural milestone for the state.

“This is Meghalaya’s Buena Vista Social Club moment,” said Edwigh Eddie Majaw of Mawjam Event Network, the organisers of the event. “These artists have defined our sound for many years, but they’ve never performed together like this. For fans, this is a once-in-a-lifetime collectors’ night.”
The concert is expected to bring together audiences across different generations, combining the enduring appeal of Lou Majaw’s five-decade musical career with the growing popularity of younger artists such as Starly Chullai.
Scheduled to begin at 9 pm, the event aims to celebrate Meghalaya’s enduring contribution to India’s blues music landscape while highlighting the continuity between its pioneering musicians and emerging talents.
Mawjam Event Network, known for curating live music experiences across the state, said the initiative is part of its broader effort to promote indigenous talent and preserve Meghalaya’s rich musical heritage.
