Bidding process starts for Rs 438 crore Monolith Towers at Mawkhanu

Shillong, Apr 30: The Meghalaya Tourism Department has started the process of inviting competitive bidding for construction of the iconic monolith towers at Mawkhanu in New Shillong Township.

The construction and campus development will be done at a cost of Rs 438.23 crore. The date for opening of the bids is May 28.

According to plans, the inconic monolith towers will have a height of 123 metres, making them the second talest structure in India after the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

The towers will have elevators to take visitors to restaurants and the circular skywalk at the top offering a panoramic view of the area.

The project was conceptualised by INI Design Studios and will cover an area of 213 acres. The complex will house experiential galleries themed around Meghalaya’s wonders such as rainfall, caves, living root bridges and the rich flora and fauna of the State.

According to officials, the project will take around two years to complete.
