BJP Meghalaya Women Hold Torch March in Shillong Over Women’s Reservation Bill

Shillong, April 30: Women leaders and workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya unit staged a torch procession in Shillong as a symbolic protest against opposition parties over the delay in the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.

The march was jointly organised by the Mahila Morcha and SC Morcha women members. Protesters said the demonstration reflects a nationwide movement demanding greater political representation for women and accused opposition parties of obstructing the Bill.

The procession was led by State BJP President Rikman G. Momin, National Spokesperson Guru Prakash Paswan, Chief Spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang, Minority Morcha President Gagan Jain, and Mahila Morcha President Arena Hynniewta.

Leaders reiterated that the Women’s Reservation Bill is key to empowering women and asserted that its passage cannot be delayed indefinitely.
