DCH focuses on market and export strategies to boost handloom products in North East

Nongpoh, December 09: The Development Commissioner Handloom under the Ministry of Textiles on Tuesday organised a knowledge-sharing session on marketing and export strategies for the handloom sector, aimed at benefiting weavers and artisans across Northeast India.

The programme was held at the Integrated Textile and Tourism Centre, Mawdiangum, Nongpoh, in Ri Bhoi District. Weavers, spinners, and entrepreneurs from various Northeastern states participated enthusiastically in the event.

Shri S. Bandyopadhyay, Zonal Director (East Zone), WSC Guwahati, and Smt. Dipika Lyngdoh, Zonal Officer (Weaving), Department of Textiles, Government of Meghalaya, highlighted key government initiatives and shared insights on marketing and export strategies to boost the handloom sector.

Resource persons from diverse fields also delivered presentations on strengthening market linkages and enhancing export opportunities for handloom products. The discussions focused on empowering weavers and entrepreneurs and improving their socio-economic conditions across the Northeastern region.

The session also underscored the need for continued support from both the State and Central governments to further uplift the handloom community and promote sustainable growth in the sector.
