Three days 12th National Seminar on Futuristic Agriculture: Technology, and Sustainability held at Umiam

Nongpoh, May 22: A three days national seminar on “Futuristic Agriculture: Technology, Sustainability and Beyond” was inaugurated on 22nd May 2025 at CPGSAS (Central Agricultural University-Imphal), Umiam, Meghalaya.

This seminar was organized in collaboration with the Society for Community Mobilization for Sustainable Development, National Horticulture Board, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya and ICAR-ATARI (Zone-VI, and Zone-VII). Around 325 participants all over the country have registered.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Chairman, Agricultural Science Recruitment Board, graced the function as chief guest in the auspicious presence of  Dr. Rajvir Singh, DDG (Agricultural Extension), Dr. P.S. Pandey (VC- RP CAU), Dr. B.R. Kamboj (VC-HAU), Dr. J.P. Sharma (Ex- VC- SKUAST Jammu), Dr. P.K. Chakroborty (Ex-Member ASRB), Dr. M.C. Sharma(Ex- VC- IVRI), Mr. Atul Jain(General Secretary Pandit Deendayal Shodh Sansthan).

The welcome address was given by Prof. D. Thakuria, Dean, CPGSAS. He focused on addressing the challenges and opportunities in Indian agriculture through technology adoption, sustainable agricultural practices, and futuristic innovations.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar in his address highlighted the importance of forward-looking agricultural research, policy innovation, and capacity building to drive the next wave of agricultural transformation in India.

Dr. Rajvir Singh, cited examples on the sustainable farming practices by farmers of Punjab and emphasized on the usages of quality data. Dr. J.P. Sharma, emphasized the needs for transformative approaches to agriculture, with a focus on integrating modern technologies to address the emerging challenges of food security and climate change.

He also added that there were eight themes and more than 400 scientific manuscripts were compiled. Dr. P. S. Pandey, cited examples on digital agriculture and space technology in transforming farming sectors. Similarly, Dr. B. R. Kamboj, narrated on the usage of resources for climate resilient farming practices. Dr. M. C. Sharma, highlighted the key issues for sustaining livestock sectors in India.

Moreover, Dr. P. K. Chakraborty, focused on the requirement of PPP mode for sustainable agricultural practices. Shri Atul Jain, emphasised on linking farmers with the agricultural institutions for their sustainable livelihoods. The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks by Dr. B. P. Singh, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Umiam.
