Order under Section 163 of BNSS imposed in Ri-Bhoi District

Nongpoh, April 2: The District Magistrate, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, has promulgated an order prohibiting the movement of heavy vehicles carrying loads exceeding 9 (nine) tonnes along the Mawmaram–Nongthliew–Mawmih–Mawhyndep road.

The order has been imposed in view of the significant deterioration of the road infrastructure attributed to the movement of overloaded vehicles. Such movement has been assessed to pose a serious threat to public safety, particularly to school-going children and other vulnerable road users.

In the interest of ensuring public safety and preventing further damage to the existing road infrastructure, the District Administration has deemed it imperative to enforce the above restriction.

The order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders. Any violation of the said order will invite penal action under the relevant provisions of law.

The general public and all concerned stakeholders are requested to extend their cooperation and adhere strictly to the order.
