Over 30 Join BJP in Nongpoh Amid Buzz Over UDP MLAs’ Possible Switch

Nongpoh, September 17: Amid growing reports in the state that eight UDP MLAs are planning to join the BJP, and that the eight legislators had also travelled to Delhi and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP in Meghalaya received a further boost on Thursday as more than 30 leaders and members of the public joined the party in Nongpoh Constituency.

The leaders and members of the public joined the BJP under the leadership of Skhemlang Marai. BJP leaders in Ri Bhoi accorded them a warm welcome, with the joining taking place on the occasion of the 76th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the occasion, besides welcoming the new members into the BJP, the BJP Ri Bhoi District also celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday by cutting a cake and lighting candles as a mark of respect.

Among those present were Daniella Lyngdoh Nonglait, State BJP Secretary in charge of Ri Bhoi; Sen Thabah, President of the BJP Ri Bhoi District; Duruth Majaw, State Secretary of the BJP Morcha; Himanta Tmung, State President of the ST Morcha; Angelus Sun and Paralat Toor, among other BJP leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Daniella Lyngdoh Nonglait and Sen Thabah extended their greetings to the leaders and members of the public who joined the BJP. They said the growing number of people joining the party had encouraged the BJP to work harder for the welfare of the people of the state.

They also clarified that the BJP is not a party that targets Christians, stating that such perceptions were misconceptions allegedly spread by people seeking to take political advantage. They said the BJP is a party that embraces all sections of society and seeks to promote unity in the country.

They further said that the BJP is also a party that brings development initiatives to people across the country. The growing number of people joining the party, they said, would further strengthen the BJP and enable it to work more effectively.
