Shillong, May 18: The Integrated Cattle Development Project (ICDP) Centre located at Mawlong Nongtluh in Ri-Bhoi District is no longer functional and even the building is in a dilapidated condition.
This was informed by Arbingstone Shylla, headman of Mawlong Nongtluh village in a press release.
Shylla also urged the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department to sanction construction of a new building for the centre.
Expressing concern over the non-functioning of the cattle development centre, Shylla said that the centre was established in the village in 1970 and once served 20 villages in Mawlong area.
However, according to him, for several years now, the centre has been non-functional.
“There are no staff present including doctor, field assistant, bull attendant, or chowkidar. The building itself is dilapidated with a collapsed roof and broken walls,” Shylla said.
He also stated that due to the non-functioning of the centre, livestock farmers are forced to travel all the way to Nongpoh for basic veterinary care.
While urging the department to sanction construction of a new building for the ICDP Centre, the headman also demanded for restoration of regular animal treatment and vaccination services with full staffing at the centre.
He also demanded for upgradation of the centre to a veterinary dispensary to meet the growing needs of livestock farmers of the area.
