Nongpoh, Sept 21: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), through the Education Cell of its Nongpoh Circle, led by Education Secretary David Marwein, along with Assistant General Secretary Rishot Lapang, Assistant Education Secretary Baniaraplang Sulein and other members of the Nongpoh Circle, today met the Principal of Nongpoh Nepali Secondary School, Nongpoh, regarding the absence of Khasi as a subject in the school.
During the meeting, the KSU submitted a memorandum to the Principal. The members also visited the office of the District School Education Officer (DSEO), Ri Bhoi District, and submitted a memorandum to the DSEO.
The DSEO assured the KSU that within the next few days, he would summon the Managing Committee of Nongpoh Nepali Secondary School to explain why Khasi as a subject is not being offered at the school.

He further assured the delegation that he would take up the matter seriously and that, in any case, Khasi should be introduced as a subject in the school. He also said that a copy of the matter would be forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi regarding the absence of Khasi as a subject at the school.
The KSU further stated that just a few weeks ago, it had met the DSEO regarding the same issue, and today it submitted a formal memorandum to him on the matter.
