A newly constructed school building of Umjong RCLP School was inaugurated in Umjong, Ri-Bhoi district, in the presence of MLA of Nongpoh Constituency Mayralborn Syiem and Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi district Abhilash Baranwal.
The project was funded under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) through the PMKKKY scheme for the financial year 2025–2026.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi district Abhilash Baranwal as the guest of honour, while MLA Mayralborn Syiem served as the chief guest. Others present included the school headmaster Anthony Makri, Keson Klein, teachers of Umjong School, village headmen from Umjong and nearby villages, traditional leaders, local residents, women, youth, and students of the school.

Before leaving the district, the Deputy Commissioner also contributed a small token of support to the school, an initiative that was described as a memorable gesture for the local community. Three new classrooms were formally inaugurated, addressing long-standing infrastructure needs of the school.
Previously, the school operated with inadequate classroom facilities, with classes being conducted in temporary structures made of bamboo. With the joint efforts of local leaders, teachers, and support from the Deputy Commissioner and MLA, the school has now been upgraded with proper classroom infrastructure, greatly benefiting the students.
The event was marked by cultural performances, including dances and songs by the students, as well as participation from local women of Umjong village.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Mayralborn Syiem praised the efforts of the Deputy Commissioner and the village headman for their role in improving educational facilities and supporting the welfare of students in the area.
