Shillong, May 19: The cost of petrol in Meghalaya is almost at Rs 100 per litre as the oil marketing companies again raised the retail price of fuel.
Yesterday, oil marketing companies increased the price of petrol and diesel by around 90 paise per litre.
The price hike comes just days after the first hike of Rs 3 per litre was made on May 15.
With the latest hike of oil prices, the cost of petrol in Meghalaya is now Rs 99.64 while the cost of diesel has jumped to Rs 91.14 per litre.
There is now fear among people in the State that the increase in the price of petrol and diesel could lead to hike in fares and freight charges.
Since Meghalaya import almost all the goods including food items and the goods, the hike in fuel prices may lead to high transport cost and result in inflation.
The increase in fuel prices in India followed the rise in the cost of global crude oil due to the ongoing tension in the Gulf and the weakening of the rupee to the dollar that resulted in high cost of importing crude oil.
