Shillong, Jul 11: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today held a review meeting via video conference with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of various districts to take stock of the situation arising out of the continuous monsoon rain across the State and to direct the response of the district administrations.
In the current spell of the first week of July, a number of incidents have been reported from several districts, mainly in the Garo Hills region and parts of Khasi Hills region, affecting 32 villages.
The damage has been largely in the form of landslides, landslips, flash flood and localised flooding. However, no loss of life has been reported in the current spell.

With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placing Meghalaya under ‘Orange’ alert and forecasting widespread rainfall to continue up to July 15 with heavy to very heavy spells likely at isolated places, Sangma has directed the DCs to remain on high alert and not to be complacent.
The Chief Minister also stressed on close coordination among the district administrations, the block-level response teams and the line departments concerned so that any incident is attended to quickly and that field personnel and machineries are kept ready for immediate response.
Sangma also directed that road connectivity affected by the rain should be restored on priority.
