Former Ksu Leader Danny M. Khyriem Urges New Leadership To Protect Khasi Identity

Shillong, May 10: Former vice president of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Danny M. Khyriem has urged the new body of the KSU under the leadership of Raymond Kharjana to ensure the unity of the Khasi tribe and to fight against those trying to divide the tribe.
In his speech at the gathering of the new KSU office bearers, Khyriem said the KSU has a plethora of issues to tackle which included railways, Inner Line Permit, inclusion of Khasi in the Eightht Schedule, revamp of MPSC, unemployment and others.
“But the KSU has another work in hand – to fight against the venom of division. Many attempts are being made to divide the Khasi tribe by saying that certain sub-tribes are not Khasis. We believe that Khynriam, Pnar, Bhoi and War are part and parcel of the larger Khasi tribe,” Khyriem said.
“It is better that those enemies of unity perished than seeing the Khasi tribe perishes due to disunity,” he added.
Khyriem also likened the new office bearers to the burning charcoals. “Don’t let the fire be extinguished from your hearts and minds,” he said.
