Shillong, May 25: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has instituted an enquiry to investigate the financial irregularities in Hima Mylliem.

The enquiry will be conducted by D S Marbaniang, the Magistrate First Class of District Council Court.

Informing this today, KHADC Executive Member (Elaka Administration), Denzil Chen clarified that there was a clerical error while mentioning the amount of dues from the 1/8 share that Hima Mylliem is yet to pay to the KHADC.

“It is not Rs 324 crore as earlier reported. There was a clerical error on our part. The amount is Rs 3.24 crore,” Chen said.

Chen also informed that from 2018 to 2025, the total income of Hima Mylliem was Rs 25.98 crore out of which the 1/8 share to KHADC was Rs 3.24 crore.

“However, the Syiem of Mylliem despite several reminders did not follow the rules. So far, he paid only token amounts which altogether amounted to only Rs 12 lakh,” Chen said.

Regarding the 10 per cent share that the KHADC ought to get from the gross income collected by Hima Mylliem from its markets, Chen said that till date the Hima Mylliem has not paid the share since 2022 to 2025 although it is mandatory that the 10 per cent share should be paid to the council.

Chen also said that there were several irregularities committed by the suspended Syiem of Mylliem, Ainam Manik Syiem.

“One of the glaring irregularity is in the collection of toll from markets. They never float any tender. They never mention the rate of toll. They allot the toll collection only to the Myntris which is against the rules,” the EM said.
