Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya: The “Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan (MRMA) 2.0” campaign was successfully implemented across Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya with the objective of promoting scientific, sustainable and productivity-oriented Eri and Muga sericulture technologies for enhancing farmer livelihoods.
The campaign was organized by Dr. Ramesh M. Maradi, Scientist-B, CSB–REC, Shillong, in coordination with Smt. R.B.Lyngwa, Deputy Director, Sericulture, Department of Textiles and other departmental officials. A total of 344 farmers, including 315 women farmers, actively participated in the nine programmes.
The campaign comprised nine programmes conducted at different locations from 22 July to 2 September 2026. These included a District Stakeholders Consultation Meeting at Nongpoh on 22 July; Technology Demonstration on Innovative Spinning Technology for Sustainable Eri and Muga Silk Production at Patharkhmah on 24 August; Field Day on Sustainable Organic Farming in Eri Silkworm Cultivation at Iapnar on 25 August; Awareness Programme on Scientific Host Plant Cultivation and Eri Silkworm Rearing Practices at Umshiaw on 26 August; Farmers Training Programme on Scientific Grainage Practices and Integrated Pest & Disease Management at Umden Farm on 27 August; Field Exposure Visit on Sustainable Eri Sericulture and Marketing Opportunities at Sailum on 28 August; Technology Demonstration on Scientific Muga Sericulture Technologies for Sustainable and Enhanced Cocoon Production at Mawsyntai on 29 August; Farmers’ Awareness Programme on Eri Sericulture Technologies and Sustainable Production Practices at Banbudai on 31 August; and the concluding Scientist–Farmer Interface Programme on Improved Muga and Eri Silkworm Production Technologies for Enhancing Silk Productivity at Umden Farm on 2 September 2026.
The programmes focused on scientific host-plant cultivation, improved silkworm rearing, organic production practices, grainage management, integrated pest and disease management, innovative spinning technology, marketing opportunities and productivity enhancement. Practical demonstrations and field-level interactions enabled farmers to understand improved technologies and address production-related challenges.
The participation of 315 women farmers out of 344 participants highlighted the significant contribution of women to Eri and Muga sericulture and demonstrated the potential of the sector for women empowerment, livelihood diversification, rural entrepreneurship and sustainable income generation.
The successful implementation of MRMA 2.0 reflects the coordinated efforts of CSB–REC Shillong and the Department of Textiles,Govt of Meghalaya, in strengthening technology transfer and building a direct interface between scientists, sericulture officials and farming communities. The campaign is expected to encourage wider adoption of improved technologies, enhance cocoon productivity and contribute to sustainable sericulture-based livelihoods in Ri-Bhoi District.
MRMA 2.0 has thus strengthened the bridge between science and farmers, transforming improved sericulture technologies into practical opportunities for sustainable production, higher productivity and rural prosperity.
