Shillong, June 21: Vehicular movement along the vital Shillong–Pynursla–Dawki Road came to a complete halt on Sunday morning after a fresh landslide washed away a significant portion of the roadway following incessant and heavy rainfall in the region.
According to visuals received from the area, a large stretch of the road caved in and collapsed into a deep gorge, rendering the route impassable for all types of vehicles. The incident has effectively severed road connectivity along the affected stretch, causing major inconvenience to commuters and travellers.
The landslide occurred below Laitlyngkot village, a location that has witnessed recurring incidents of soil erosion and road damage during the monsoon season. The latest collapse has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the strategically important road, which serves as the main link connecting Shillong with Pynursla and the international border town of Dawki.
