Shillong, May 15: The State Election Department is geared up for conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Meghalaya.

Chief Electoral Officer B D R Tiwari today said that Meghalaya is covered in the third phase of SIR which will commence in June and the final electoral rolls will be published on October 7.

“Meghalaya is ready for the conduct of SIR in the State as per the schedule provided by the Election Commission,” Tiwari said.

He also informed that the first round of consultation with political parties had been held.

“During the consultation, the schedule and procedures of SIR were briefed to the political parties and all their queries and concerns have also been addressed,” he added.

Urging political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to work with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) at the ground level in polling stations, Tiwari also promised transparent and error free SIR.

The Chief Electoral Officer also said that under SIR, there are four categories of voters that will be asked to submit documentation.

According to him, voters whose name are registered in the electoral rolls of 2005 are required to submit the relevant part of that year’s voter list along with enumeration form.

Voters whose names are not found in the 2005 voter list and who are born in India before July 1, 1987 have to upload and submit self documents along with the enumeration form.

“There are eleven self documents, the list of which has been provided by the Election Commission,” Tiwari said.

He also said that voters who were born between July 1, 1987 and December 2, 2004 and whose parents are not registered in the voter list are required to upload some self documents and documents of either their mother and father along with the enumeration form.

Moreover, voters who were born after December 2004 and whose parents are not registered in that year’s voter list would have to submit self documents, mother’s documents and father’s documents along with the enumeration form.
