Shillong, July 23: The Voice of the People Party (VPP), one of the political parties in Meghalaya, has extended its full support to the ongoing youth protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, stating that the party stands firmly with the young protesters who are fighting for the future of the youth of Meghalaya and the country as a whole.
Speaking to the media, VPP spokesperson Dr. Airpeace Well Rani said the party fully supports the students and youth staging the protest in Delhi. He said the VPP not only backs the protesters demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG question paper leak, but also supports their broader fight against corruption, favouritism, discrimination, and other practices by politicians that they claim are harming the country.
Dr. Rani also strongly condemned the alleged use of force by the Delhi Police against the protesters. Referring to media reports, he claimed that several protesters had sustained injuries during the police action and criticised what he described as the indifferent attitude of the Central Government towards the agitation.
He further called upon the Meghalaya Government, led by the Chief Minister, to make its position clear on the ongoing youth protest. He said the VPP wants to know the State Government’s stand on the movement, which is aimed at securing justice and safeguarding the future of the country’s youth.
In addition, Dr. Rani strongly condemned the alleged remarks made by a BJP member who reportedly suggested that the protesters in Delhi should be shot. He reiterated that the VPP stands firmly with the protesting youth and urged the Meghalaya Government to respond to the issue, asserting that the movement affects not only the youth of other parts of the country but also the young people of Meghalaya.
