Shillong, Apr 26: Shree Cement Limited has approved the proposal for setting of its cement factory in Meghalaya.
The proposed factory will be located at Daistong village of East Jaiñtia Hills District at an estimated cost of Rs 1800 crore.
The company has set a tentative timely of March 2028 for completion of the factory.
The cement plant will have a clinker capacity of 0.95 million tons per year and cement capacity of 0.99 tons per year.
Meanwhile, local villagers from the area have expressed their opposition to the public hearing scheduled to be held on May 22 for the limestone mining project of Shree Cement at Lum Syrman.
The public hearing was called by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB).
The villagers said that Lum Syrman belonged to Elaka Nongkhlieh. They also said that they have documents to prove the same which was issued by the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council
