SHILLONG, July 21: Umroi Airport resonated with the sound of drums and cheers on Tuesday as the officials of the All Meghalaya Karate Do Association (AMKA), along with parents and family members, accorded a warm welcome to two Meghalaya karate players, Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri and Gideon Tympuin, following their medal-winning performances at the 10th Cadet, Junior, U-21 and Senior South Asian Karate Championship 2026 held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri brought glory to the country by winning the gold medal in the Boys’ Junior Individual Kumite (-68kg) event, while Gideon Tympuin secured a bronze medal in the Men’s U-21 Individual Kata category.
The two karatekas earned the opportunity to represent India after delivering outstanding performances in national-level championships earlier this year.

Gideon qualified for the South Asian Championship after winning the gold medal at the 5th KIO Senior & U-21 National Karate Championship 2026, held in New Delhi in February.
Daniel, meanwhile, secured his place in the Indian team after winning the silver medal in the Junior Individual Kumite (-68kg) category at the 5th KIO Sub-Junior, Cadet & Junior National Karate Championship 2026, held in Dehradun in June this year.
Coincidentally, while returning home, the two athletes travelled on the same flight as Meghalaya State Olympic Association Working President John F. Kharshiing, East Shillong MLA Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, and former Malki MDC Fantin Lakadong, whom they met during their journey from Kolkata.
Outside Umroi Airport, the medal winners were received by their parents, relatives and well-wishers. Representing AMKA at the reception were Secretary Ksan Kupar Warjri and Coach Donboklang Lyngdoh.

Congratulating the two athletes, AMKA Secretary Ksan Kupar Warjri, Coach Donboklang Lyngdoh ad their parents, expressed immense happiness and pride over the honour that the young athletes had brought to Meghalaya and the nation through their remarkable achievements on the international stage.
Meanwhile, the two medal winners, Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri and Gideon Tympuin, expressed their gratitude for the warm reception accorded to them by officials of the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA), their parents, and family members. They said the honour and encouragement they received had further motivated them to strive for even greater success in future competitions, bringing more pride to Meghalaya and the country.
