Shillong, Apr 13: Nongkrem MLA and president of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) Ardent M. Basaïawmoit on Sunday visited the chairman of Green Tech Foundation, Bansiewdor Nonglang who is on indefinite hunger strike since April 9 at Malki Ground, Shillong.

Basaïawmoit offered his party’s support to the demand by Green Tech Foundation for scrapping of the State’s government’s decision to hand over Lumpongdeng Island at Umïam Lake to Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) for development of Taj Umïam Resort and Spa.

Nonglang who has grown physically weak due to the fast is accompanied by members of Green Tech Foundation. He has made it clear not to withdraw his hunger strike till the agreement over Lumpongdeng Island was not revoked.

Recently, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had clarified that there was no move to erect any permanent structure at the island and that IHCL would set up only temporary structures such as tents and shamianas for guests.
