Shillong, Jul 5: Meghalaya along with all states and union territories in the country today got their first installment (Mother Sanction) for implementation of Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin), also known as GRAM-G.
The first installment was released by Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan during his meeting via video conference with rural development ministers of all states and union territories.
It may be noted that the Central government has sanctioned Rs 1100 crore for Meghalaya to implement GRAM-G in the State till March 31, 2027. The allocation will be shared between the Central government and the State on a 90:10 ratio.

Chouhan during the meeting said that the first installment released today is aimed at ensuring that states have adequate funds so that wages can be paid within 15 days. He urged the states to release their matching share on time so that there is no delay in payment of wages.
Stating that the scheme is being implemented from July 1 across the country, Chouhan informed that wage rates under the scheme has been increased by around 10 per cent and no state will now have a wage rate below Rs 300 per day.
GRAM-G replaces the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Under the new scheme, the guaranteed number of employment days has been increased to 125 from 100.
