Nongpoh, September 1: The Regional Institute of Advanced Studies (RIAS), one of the computer training institutes providing skills-based education to students and youths in Ri-Bhoi and adjoining areas, distributed certificates on Monday to students who successfully completed a Basic Computer Training Course conducted at the RIAS Institute in Nongpoh.
The one-month computer training course, offered free of cost, was supported by the 67 Battalion CRPF, Shillong, with the objective of creating opportunities for students, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds, to acquire knowledge and skills related to computer technology.
The certificate distribution programme was hed at RIAS Institute MUDA Complex at Nongpoh and attended by Jai Singh, Commandant of 67 BN CRPF Shillong, as the chief guest, along with Ajit Singh, Inspector, E/67 BN CRPF Nongpoh, and Skhem B. Swett, Director of RIAS, in the presence of the students.
Speaking as the chief guest, Jai Singh, Commandant of 67 BN CRPF Shillong, praised the students for coming forward to enhance their knowledge and skills beyond their regular academic studies. He said it was encouraging to see them taking the initiative to undergo additional training in computer skills.

He also appreciated RIAS for its efforts to provide comprehensive computer training and urged the students who had completed the Basic Course to continue improving their skills by pursuing more advanced levels of computer education.
Skhem B. Swett, Director of RIAS, said that the opportunity to conduct such free training programmes was a golden opportunity for students from economically weaker sections who were eager to acquire computer skills.

He further said that the present era could be considered a challenging future for young people, as many students, even after completing their studies, are forced to remain at home without employment. Therefore, he stressed that knowledge and proficiency in computer technology have become extremely important, as computer skills are now required in almost every field of work.
