Ri Bhoi Contractors to Hold Protest Rally Over Lack of Contract Work for Local Contractors

Nongpoh, May 25: The Ri Bhoi Government Contractors and Suppliers Association has decided to organise a protest rally on June 3 from Nongpoh to the office of the Deputy Commissioner over the lack of work opportunities for local contractors in Ri Bhoi District.

The decision was taken during a meeting held at Dorbar Hall Sajer, Nongpoh, attended by contractors and association leaders, including President Plielad Tiewsoh, Working President C.L. Masharing, Adviser Kyrmen Uriah, and President of Khasi-Jaintia Contractors Association Malcom Langi.

Addressing media persons, the leaders alleged that major development projects worth crores are being awarded to a single company without sharing works with local contractors, badly affecting their livelihoods.

The association said it will first submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner seeking government intervention and warned of stronger protests if their demands are not addressed within a week.
