Shillong, Jul 9: Meghalaya has improved its ranking in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) of 2025-26 by jumping to Akanshi -1 Grade from the previous Akanshi – 3 Grade.
A day after the PGI was released by the Ministry of Education, Meghalaya’s Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui was elated that he called a press conference to announce the State’s achievement in the education index of the country with an overall score of 525.7.
Along with Meghalaya, twelve other states were also listed in Akanshi -1 Grade. They are Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Tripura, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.

A look at the PGI score chart of Akanshi – 1 showed that Meghalaya is at the bottom since these other states have higher overall scores.
In Akanshi – 1 Grade, Uttar Pradesh tops the score chart with an overall score of 579.9 followed by Chattisgarh (578.9), West Bengal (578), Madhya Pradesh (566.8), Bihar (564.8), Tripura (563.4), Jharkhand (555), Mizoram (549.7), Manipur (547.7), Jammu & Kashmir (547), Nagaland (544.2), Arunachal Pradesh (541.7), Meghalaya (525.7).
