POCSO Case Quashed, Ri-Bhoi Family Man Now Free

Shillong, Jul 15: The Meghalaya High Court has of late ordered quashing of FIRs registered in various police stations with regard to cases under POCSO.

The High Court has considered various angles and it passed its verdicts in these cases taking into consideration mutual consent and societal acceptability.

In the latest case, the bench of Meghalaya High Court’s Chief Justice, Revati Mohite Dere has ordered the quashing of the POCSO complaint registered in Umroi PIC against Mahin Mebanjop Sten.

Sten and his wife got married at a young age. They live together with their two kids, one aged two years and another just eight months old.

Sten works as a tourist taxi driver and is the sole bread earner for the family.

Based on its previous verdict in the Shalenbor Wahlang & Another Vs State of Meghalaya & Another passed in April 2026, the High Court’s bench of Justice Dere in a recent order ruled that since the petitioner (Sten) and his wife are living together as husband and wife and having their own children, there is no impediment in quashing the FIR registered by Umroi PIC and setting aside the POCSO proceedings against Sten pending at the Special Judge (POCSO), Nongpoh.
