The High Court has considered various angles and it passed its verdicts in these cases taking into consideration mutual consent and societal acceptability.

Sten and his wife got married at a young age. They live together with their two kids, one aged two years and another just eight months old.
Sten works as a tourist taxi driver and is the sole bread earner for the family.
Based on its previous verdict in the Shalenbor Wahlang & Another Vs State of Meghalaya & Another passed in April 2026, the High Court’s bench of Justice Dere in a recent order ruled that since the petitioner (Sten) and his wife are living together as husband and wife and having their own children, there is no impediment in quashing the FIR registered by Umroi PIC and setting aside the POCSO proceedings against Sten pending at the Special Judge (POCSO), Nongpoh.
