NONGPOH, July 16: Expressing concern over the worsening condition of National Highway-6 in Ri Bhoi, which has disrupted the movement of commuters due to its damaged and pothole-ridden stretches, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) Ri Bhoi Youth Wing on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, urging immediate repair of the highway.
The delegation was led by the VPP Ri Bhoi Youth Wing General Secretary, Garlanding Sun, and included David Umwi, Executive Member of the VPP State Youth Wing, along with other party leaders.
Speaking to the media, David Umwi said the Youth Wing decided to meet the Deputy Commissioner and submit the memorandum because the deteriorating condition of NH-6 has become a serious safety concern. He said several stretches of the highway are badly damaged and filled with potholes, posing a significant risk to motorists and other road users.

He further stated that the VPP had strongly urged the Deputy Commissioner to intervene and take up the matter with the concerned authorities. The party also highlighted the issue of heavy trucks being parked indiscriminately along the highway, saying it poses a danger to commuters and pedestrians and makes the road unsafe.

Umwi added that the VPP was encouraged by the Deputy Commissioner’s assurance that he would take up the matter with the authorities responsible for the maintenance of the highway. The party expressed hope that prompt action would be taken to repair the road and eliminate the risks faced by the public travelling along NH-6 in Ri Bhoi district.
