Shillong, Jun 12: A labourer died in a soil collapse at a construction site in Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong today.
According to reports, a group of labourers were carrying out excavation work for a building foundation when a mass of filled soil from the upper portion of the site gave way and collapse into the excavation pit.
On being informed, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team led by Inspector T Tynsong rushed to the spot.
After nearly one hour of intensive operations, the SDRF team retrieved the body of the victim from beneath the debris at 4:10 PM.
The body was handed over to the authorities in the presence of officials of Mawdiangdiang Police Outpost, the local headman, the owner of the construction site and coworkers of the deceased.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been revealed.
