Port Blair, May 2: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands has secured a place in the Guinness World Records after successfully unfurling the largest Indian national flag underwater.
The record-setting event took place at Swaraj Dweep, where a 60-metre by 40-metre tricolour was carefully deployed beneath the sea with the participation of around 200 trained divers. The operation required precise coordination, technical expertise, and strict safety planning due to the challenges of underwater conditions.
Officials said the initiative was designed not only to achieve a world record but also to highlight the region’s potential as a destination for marine tourism and adventure activities. The effort brought together personnel from various agencies and diving groups, demonstrating strong teamwork and discipline.
Authorities noted that the recognition adds to the growing list of achievements from the island territory and reflects a broader push to showcase India’s capabilities in unique and challenging environments.
The accomplishment has drawn national attention, symbolising both innovation and a spirit of exploration, while reinforcing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ reputation as a hub for distinctive initiatives.
