Shillong, May 3: Teachers of grant-in-aid schools and colleges in Meghalaya will carry out poster campaign in their respective institutions tomorrow (May 4) as part of their protest against the implementation of the Meghalaya Non-Government Schools and Colleges Centralised Fund Scheme, 2026.
This social security scheme for teaching and non-teaching staff of non-government schools and colleges has been strongly opposed by them as it did not meet their aspirations as earlier promised by the State government.
In a statement issued to the media, the teachers said the campaign is being organised to express the concerns of teaching and non-teaching staff including those who have retired from service over the introduction of the Centralised Fund Scheme “which has been unanimously rejected by the teachers.”
“As stakeholders, we maintain that the scheme affects the financial security of thousands of employees of deficit grant-in-aid educational institutions and overlooks established legal safeguards,” the statement said.
“Through this poster campaign, we as stakeholders would like to appeal to the Government of Meghalaya to respect the legitimate rights of the employees, uphold existing legal provisions, and refrain from imposing any policy detrimental to the welfare of serving and retired teachers,” the statement added.
