Nongpoh, May 3: Continuing with their drive against various violations of Motor Vehicle Act by drivers and riders, Ri-Bhoi District Police today set up three checkpoints on National Highway-6 to carry out vehicle checking.
The checkpoints were set up by Umïam Police Station, Umsning Police Station and Nongpoh Police Station.
During the checking at these three checkpoints, policr detected drunk drivers, drivers not using seat belt, vehicles with modification, riders without helmets, three-wheelers with no documentation and other violations.
Fine totally amounting to over Rs 2 lakh was collected from the violators.
Police also said that the drive would continue in order to enforce the Motor Vehicle Act and ensure road safety.
