House-To-House SIR Process Set To Kickstart In East Khasi Hills

Shillong, Jun 29: A month-long house-to-house verification of voters will begin tomorrow in all  constituencies of East Khasi Hills as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

East Khasi Hills has 1021 polling stations and 1021 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who will be conducting the verification of voters.

Informing this today, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said under the SIR exercise of the Election Commission of India will run from June 30 to July 29 during which BLOs will distribute self-enumeration forms to voters listed in the 2005 electoral roll.

He also said that at the enumeration stage, no documents are required to be produced by voters. “In a small fraction of cases where BLOs need clarification, voters will be informed and given time to submit additional documents,” Baranwal said, adding that the Election Commission has listed eleven indicative documents to be produced.

“Irrespective of surname or location, the voters have to establish that either they or their family members were present in the 2005 electoral roll,” he said.

According to the DC, the 2005 electoral roll was taken as a baseline across India because it was the last comprehensive revision undertaken by the Election Commission of India.

Urging voters to participate in the SIR process, Baranwal also requested them not to have any doubt or apprehension about the exercise.

“Those likely to be deleted are deceased persons, those who have shifted or duplicate or those who are not bonafide citizens of India. As has been stated by the Election Commission of India, the SIR idea is to include and not to exclude. This is an exercise of enumeration of the existing voters only,” he said.

Baranwal also informed that voters must duly fill up the enumeration form and submit the same to the BLOs. This will be followed by a one-month period for filing claims and objections, after which the Electoral Registration Officers will take another month to decide on the claims and objections. The final electoral rolls will be published on October 7, 2026.
