Patricia Mukhim Hits Back at Himanta Over Allegation That She Hates Tourists from Assam

Shillong, August 28: Prominent social activist and writer Patricia Mukhim has come forward to clarify her position following comments made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma against her in recent days.

For context, Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that not everyone in Meghalaya dislikes tourists from Assam. However, he alleged that certain “intellectuals”, including writer and journalist Patricia Mukhim, had expressed opposition to tourists from Assam.

The Assam Chief Minister also said that Assam would continue to respect Patricia Mukhim and that tourists from Assam have a strong emotional attachment to Shillong.

In her clarification, Patricia Mukhim said that it was highly wrong for a person holding such a high position to make such a careless remark.

She further said that, in her view, people who come to Shillong for sightseeing often litter and pollute the environment. She clarified that even in her writings, she had never mentioned the name of any particular state, and therefore, the Assam Chief Minister’s statement was incorrect.
