Shillong, Jun 22: The Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to create a temporary alternative route in order to facilitate vehicular movement from Laitlyngkot to Pynursla and other villages of Ri-War Mihngi area.
The decision to create a temporary by-lane was taken at a high level meeting held at Laitlyngkot Inspection Bungalow today which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
It may be recalled that road connectivity to Pynursla and the entire Ri-War Mihngi was snapped after a major landslide on June 20. A portion of the road near Laitlyngkot was washed away due to heavy rain and as the result, traffic movement was no longer possible.
During today’s meeting, it was decided that an alternative route through the stone quarry belonging to Khrik Lyngkhoi at Laitkynsew would be used as a temporary by-lane.
The proposed by-lane would connect Laitkynsew, Nongthymmai, Umthli, Ïew Mawïong and Laitlyngkot.

“We have asked the PWD to prepare the estimate and to get financial sanction for construction of the by-lane,” Tynsong said.
He also informed that NHIDCL would take time to repair and restore the washed away portion of the road.
Tynsong also said that experts from IIT Guwahati have arrived to study the soil condition and other geological aspects to enable the NHIDCL to decide whether the restoration work is feasible at the site where the road was washed away.
He also said that East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal has been directed to conduct a joint inspection of the entire stretch from Laitlyngkot to Pynursla in order to ensure that there the road is safe for commuters and also to prevent any untoward incidences.
