Shillong, Jun 15: Meghalaya is set to have eight new five-star hotels in the next three-four years.
This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today while addressing the North East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition held at Lariti Performing Centre, New Shillong
“Meghalaya earlier did not have a single five-star hotel. In the last five years, we have started two five-star hotels. In the next three-four years, eight new five-star hotels are set to be opened. The agreements have been signed and work has started on four of them,” he said.
Sangma also said that expansion of the Shillong Airport at Umroi is ongoing and will be completed within the next one-and-a half years to facilitate landing of bigger commercial flights.

He also said that Meghalaya’s capital expenditure on infrastructure projects has increased six folds in the last eight years.
“Our capital expenditure, the expenditure on infrastructure and investment, has grown six times in the last eight years,” Sangma said.
He also referred to the various infrastructure projects that have been launched in the State which included the FIFA-certified football stadium at Mawkhanu, New Shillong with a seating capacity of 40,000 and being constructed at the cost of Rs 800 crore.
Stating that the new Legislative Assembly building is nearing completion, Sangma informed that construction of the new Secretariat building in New Shillong is underway and is expected to be completed in about a year-and-a half.
