Small parties won’t have voice in Parliament: Pala

Shillong, Apr 24: Former Lok Sabha MP from Shillong seat, Vincent H. Pala said that small political parties would not have much voice in parliament which has over 500 members.

Speaking to media persons yesterday on the sidelines of a meeting of Congress workers of Mylliem Constituency, Pala said that there is a need to vote for a big party in order to have a say in parliament.

“What is more important to understand is that smaller parties have little or no voice in a House of more than 500 members. We need big parties there since they have a voice,” Pala said.

On the performance of former MP (late) Ricky Syngkon during his tenure in parliament, Pala pleaded ignorance since he had no opportunity to meet the former MP.

“I had no chance to meet him due to my various engagements. We met only once in Delhi where we discussed on the issue of inclusion of Khasi language in the Eight Schedule. Since I had no chance to meet him regularly, I don’t know much about his performance and achievements as an MP,” Pala said.

“It is for the people to judge between him and me as far as what we have done and achieved during our respective tenures,” he added.
