Jowai, July 9: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday extended his greetings to the people of Meghalaya, particularly those in Jaintia Hills, on the occasion of the Behdeinkhlam festival, expressing hope for the success of the annual cultural and religious celebration.
Speaking to reporters after arriving to attend the festival as the Chief Guest, Sarma conveyed his best wishes to the people of the state and particularly people of Jaintia Hills.
“From the State of Assam to our brothers in Meghalaya, and most specifically to the brothers and sisters of Jaintia Hills, I convey my good wishes and pray for the success of the festival,” he said.
Responding to a question on the Assam-Meghalaya border situation and reports of occasional friction, the Assam Chief Minister said relations between the two neighbouring states remain cordial and that any issues are addressed promptly through dialogue.

“I don’t think so. Everything is settled smoothly. Everything is smooth,” Sarma said, adding that he regularly meets Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and the state’s Deputy Chief Ministers to discuss matters of mutual interest.
“The discussion is always open. We keep on meeting and there is no friction. Whenever something happens, we resolve that immediately with the spirit of friendship,” he said.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the festival, Sarma also said he would actively participate in the traditional celebrations, including joining the customary festivities at the sacred pond.
“I will also join the festival. I will also jump in the pond,” he remarked.
